Welcome to the first episode of Beyond Fear: The Sex Crimes Podcast.
In this episode we introduce ourselves to you. Alexa and Alissa are “survivor scholars”. We are criminal justice professors an sex crimes experts based in California who also publicly navigate our professional spaces publicly owning our experiences as rape survivors.
We then talked about why we believe sexual abuse is increasing during the current COVID-19 pandemic.
We provided some data on the increase in calls to sexual abuse hotlines. We referenced the Rape Abuse and Incest National Network. If you experiencing sexual harm of any kind and need resources a good place to start is to call the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673).
